deradicalization in Indonesia
It just my flash-views on the government’s attitude toward the radically movement. As we know, since the government had always been approach with the Pesantren. however, Pesantren are where the fundamental attitude education for Islamic people. But who needs to realize is not necessarily the attitude of radical fundamentalists. This is where governments must realize that the Pesantren does’nt make a radical person. We’ll see about the history of Islamic schools in Indonesia. Pesantren that gave birth to people even pluralist and nationalist. That radical attitude is transmitted by those who have links to radical movement outside Indonesia, such as the JI group, or any of their current labels.
In addition to the Pesantren approach, the government is also an enterprise of the former radical who has returned to the bosom of the motherland. Usually people like this be embraced with 2 goals: 1. can pass on his relatives deradikalisasi, 2. can extract the remnants of confidential information about the radical movements that have been left behind.
Another government role deradicalization goal is to turn anti-radical community, such as the Jaringan Islam Liberal, the Forum Inter-Religious Forum, and others that I do not know. This leaves the way his own problems, namely the clash between radical ideas (and who are considered among the fundamentalists) vs. the pluralist (moderate). Between religious (may be called the tolerance) to deal with the traditional radical who always suspected that these forum is how the Zionist and Christianization to paralyze the Islamic fundamentalism. Some preachers (interpreter da’i) in Jakarta had echoing opposition like this.
For me, conscious or not, free school programs and health care as well as a way of government efforts to answer issues that radicals often using the issue of social inequality and poverty as a movement power-raising programs. That it should be noted, the issue of poverty and social inequality is not only used as marketing brand for the Islamic radicalism, but also for the movements of the character of “the left”.
